Kyleigh's Special Day with her Hunny

Kyleigh, my sweet 2 1/2 year old grandangel, recently spent one very special Saturday with me while her mommy and daddy painted her new house.  When I arrived to pick her up, she was dressed like a doll from head to toe and was eager to share her goodbye kisses with Lynsey and Jon so that we could begin our Saturday adventure!  Our car conversations included some helpful tips from her Hunny(me) about what ceramics was, and how it was the same and yet different from watercolor painting.  She listened intently for a brief few moments, and then I giggled to myself when she very confidently assured me she already knew how to paint!  From the moment we entered the store, she was in awe and a little overwhelmed with all of her choices for a project.  She decided to pick a puppy and selected her colors to match Jazzy, her beloved Australian Shepherd.  What joy and happiness she sparked in me over the next hour or so as she carefully painted and talked about her paint colors of black and white, with green for a collar!  As she began to blot on her finishing touches, it dawned on me that I had not explained beforehand about firing a ceramics piece so I anxiously launched into tentative lesson on what would happen over the next few days with her new treasure.  Surprisingly, she kissed her puppy goodbye and told "it" she would see him next week without shedding a tear or fulfilling my dreaded anticipation of a two-year old tantrum!  Our Hunny/Kyleigh date ended with a picnic on our breezeway, and then snuggling together while we napped the afternoon away!

Simply enjoying my sweet girl,

Cooler Weather/Warmer Heart

What a blessing it is to be able to step outside each morning this past week to saturate my lungs with each deep breathe, the coolness that arrived at the end of September!  It has been such a very long time since I have embraced each moment with a simpler focus on my life, and oh, how joyful it is to sip my warm and comforting cup of coffee while listening to the songs of birds as they go about the business of their day.  I have especially enjoyed the droves of hummingbirds this past month, and their intense and purposeful sips of the nectar that I prepared for them!  Devouring chapters at a time in a book has been another delightful pleasure I have rekindled with my newly discovered idle moments as one of many positive after-effects of retirement.  My worries about how I could possibly and productively spend my minutes, hours and days at home rather than in a school setting are decreasing as each day passes!  I am beginning to enjoy a simpler and quieter life this month!  My heart is filled with the hope, warmth and expectancy of my Lord and Savior, and what He might have in store for me in my future, but for now, I truly believe God wants me to make the most of new opportunities for a freshness in my life.

Simply living for the moment,
Linda
